“SHAKESPEARE’S TOOLKIT” Workshop

“SHAKESPEARE’S TOOLKIT” Workshop

Shakespeare workshops, New York City

May 14th and 15th 2011

In collaboration with Cake Productions

Internationally acclaimed Shakespeare specialist Rob Clare, whose recent freelance credits on both sides of the Atlantic include Steppenwolf and the Royal Shakespeare Company, offers his expertise in an intensive and highly practical weekend workshop for actors of all levels of experience.  Broad-ranging, eclectic, and always tied into the actor’s process, the workshop will demystify some of the issues surrounding Shakespearean text, and especially working with Shakespearean verse, and direct address, showing that what may seem to be inherent difficulties or challenges are in fact creative opportunities.  All theoretical guidance offered in the workshop is given practical application in a working rehearsal environment.

Whether you’re an experienced Shakespearean actor, or a complete novice, or preparing for auditions, or whatever your interest, this workshop is for you.  Come and share some new perspectives, as well as re-evaluating received wisdom and theories.  Get up on your feet, and pick up on key strategies and fundamentally practical approaches to help enable you to bring Shakespeare’s text to vivid, original, and fresh life onstage.

******

Participants will prepare a Shakespeare speech of their own choice, or (with an agreed scene partner) a short duologue, or section of a scene.  Among other texts and materials that will be discussed, we will look briefly together at Macbeth Act 1 Scene 7, so please also be familiar with this play and this scene.

******

The workshop series will take place during the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May, 10am-1pm and 2-6pm on each day, venue to be announced.

The total cost of the workshop is $200.

Numbers will be limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.  Email cakeproductions.nyc@gmail.com now to notify us of your interest and then, click on this link to submit your payment to secure your spot:

  • Did You Know?

Cake Productions has big plans for 2011! In the days since the founding of our company, our fiscal sponsor, Fractured Atlas, has been benevolent and extremely helpful, guiding us through early growing pains and allowing us to receive tax-deductible donations immediately upon developing our company mission statement. However, by our two-year anniversary, April 2011, our goal is to become our own 501(c)(3).
